Devils Highway. Best track on the album, and home grown too!! Standard 12 bar format in the key of G.Drum and bass very tight. I think the lead guitar breaks should have been brought more forward. Excellent keyboard solo, very Georgie Fame. The border line between blues and jazz is often ill defined. On this track OBM almost step over the line in the solo breaks, but not quite. First class. The Letter. Interesting cover of the Box Tops Sept. 67 number 5 hit. Then I seem to remember it was criticised for being too short. Thankfully this OBM version is not much longer. Stormy Monday. Fantastic version of probably T-Bone Walkers best known song. Incredible keyboard solo. Very laid back. House Of The Rising Sun. Brilliant up beat version of a song that every band in the country has covered. But Key To The Highway. After Devils Highway, this has to be the next star track. It even knocks spots off the Clapton version. No further comment required. Dead Flowers. Now I can?t recall a cover version of this Stones song. It has always been one of my favourites but it never got the attention I think it?s due. This version is a little faster than the original but I think it still works. Nice. Six Days On The Road. Another classic covered by so many bands. This version can hold its head up amongst the best. Superb.
White Room. Well there has to be a runt in ever litter. I?m afraid this is it. It?s a hard act to follow, Cream. Sorry but this just doesn?t work for me. The vocal is laboured, the drums are struggling to keep up and the lead guitar is too stilted, it needs to flow and I?m afraid it doesn?t. Difficult song I know, but sorry guys, it doesn?t work. Just my opinion. And who am I ? Nobody. (Clint Gurry ) |

Slippin Out. Good opening track. Nice mellow sounding guitar, almost Robert Cray.
not like this I suspect. I take the credit for teaching Ron Hall the chords to this song some 20 years ago. The sax is reminiscent of the late Raphael Ravenscroft (remember Baker Street) Again the drum and bass tight together as they were in track 2. So important with a song like this.
Need Your Love So Bad. Best version I have heard since Fleetwood Mac released it in July ?68. Slower than the original but that does not detract from its impact. The vocal is powerful, superb and soulful, in parts tortuous. And a string backing too !!
